Chilean Needle Grass Weed Control in Altona

Aus Eco Solutions manages three Conservation Reserves owned by SCT Logistics in Altona.  These Altona reserves hold a high conservation value due to the presence of the endangered Spiny-Rice Flower (Pimelea spinescens subsp. Spinescens) and high quality and density of Kangaroo Grass (Themeda triandra) and other native grasses such as Spear Grass (Stypa Spp. and Wallaby Grass (Danthonia spp.).

Often mistaken for native Spear Grass, Chilean Needle Grass (Nassella neesiana) is a declared noxious weed in Victoria and can be hard to identify, especially when it is not in seed. During Autumn we have  been controlling Chilean Needle Grass weed infestations throughout these reserves via hand weeding and knapsack spraying using herbicide.  Our crew have been trained in grass identification and are competent in successfully controlling Chilean Needle Grass weed infestations with minimal off target species damage.  Pictured below are before and after treatment photos of a Chilean Needle Grass weed infestation which is growing amongst native spear grass.
