Barwon Heads Management of Invasive Grass Species

Moonah Park Reserve

This Winter Aus Eco Solutions worked in conjunction with the City of Greater Geelong Council to manage the Moonah Park Reserve located in Barwon Heads.

The aim of this work was to control invasive grass species, particularly Panic Veldt Grass (Pittosporum undulatum), broadleaf species such as Cape Weed (Arctotheca calendula), and various thistles, to make way for the native grasses and shrubs such as Saltbush (Atriplex cinerea) and Stipas to thrive with less competition within the designated conservation zones. The flowering thistles that were located amongst natives were manually removed and bagged to be taken off site to keep the reserve looking healthy and prevent the spread of their seed, throughout the conservation zone, into the nearby waterway and into neighbouring peoples properties.
